Privacy & Consumer Health Data Policy
Effective July 28, 2026
SnapFood AI is operated by Outlane Inc. (“Outlane,” “we,” or “us”). This policy applies to the SnapFood AI Android app and explains what information it accesses and processes, why it is processed, whom it is disclosed to, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you.
Important summary
- Your profile, meal and weight history, saved meal photos, nutrition results, goals, and settings are stored locally in SnapFood's private storage on your Android device.
- When you request a scan, a resized meal photo and relevant meal context are sent through our backend to OpenAI or Alibaba Cloud Qwen for analysis. Scans are not performed entirely on-device.
- The current Android app does not use advertising SDKs, Google Analytics for Firebase, or cross-app behavioral tracking.
- We do not sell personal data or consumer health data and do not use it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising.
1. Information the Android app accesses or processes
Profile and health-related information stored on your device
The app may store your age, sex selection, height, weight, activity level, nutrition and weight goals, dietary preferences, meal photos, meal history, nutrition estimates, weight history, app settings, reminder preferences, and policy-acceptance record locally on your device. We do not normally receive a copy of this locally stored profile or history.
Camera, selected photos, and saved meal photos
If you choose to photograph a meal, SnapFood requests Android camera permission and uses the camera only while you use that feature. SnapFood does not request microphone permission. If you choose an existing image, Android's system picker or document picker gives the app access to the image you select; SnapFood does not require broad access to your photo library.
For analysis, the selected or captured image is converted to a compressed JPEG with a target width of 600 pixels. If you save the analyzed meal, a copy of the meal photo may be placed in SnapFood's private app storage so it can appear in your meal history.
Meal scans and follow-up requests
When you choose to analyze a meal, the app sends the resized image to our backend. It may also send information needed to provide the result, including the current time of day, current nutrition totals and targets, recent meal names, portion details, ingredients, nutrition values, or corrections you enter. The app does not send your age, sex, height, weight, activity level, or target weight as part of a meal scan.
Our application code processes scan content in memory to route the request and return a result. We do not intentionally write meal photos, prompts, corrections, or AI responses to our application database or content logs. The selected AI provider may retain or review limited request data under its abuse-prevention, security, and legal requirements as described below.
Network and security information
When the app connects to our service, we and our hosting providers process technical information such as IP address, request time, requested route, response status, and standard network or device headers. Our API briefly uses an IP address in server memory to limit abusive request bursts. Hosting and security providers may retain access and security logs for their standard operational retention periods.
Analytics and advertising
The current Android app does not include Google Analytics for Firebase, Google Ads, an advertising SDK, or a third-party crash reporting SDK. We do not collect an Android Advertising ID and do not send meal photos, nutrition information, profile information, or app activity to an analytics or advertising provider. If these practices change, we will update this policy and provide any notice or consent required by law or Google Play policy before the new collection begins.
Notifications
If you turn on meal reminders, SnapFood requests Android notification permission and schedules local notifications on your device. Reminder content and scheduling are handled on-device. We do not operate a remote marketing push-notification, SMS, or email list for the Android app.
Google Play purchases
If paid features are offered and you make a purchase through Google Play, Google processes your payment information. SnapFood may receive purchase, transaction, subscription-status, and entitlement information needed to provide paid access, restore purchases, prevent fraud, and provide support. We do not receive your full payment-card number.
2. Consumer health data
Depending on where you live, meal photos, inferred nutrition, dietary preferences, weight information, activity level, and health or nutrition goals may be considered consumer health data. We process this data only to provide features you request, maintain your on-device history, personalize nutrition targets, secure the service, comply with law, and support the choices described in this policy.
Sources of consumer health data are you, your use of the app, and inferences returned by the AI analysis providers. We do not sell consumer health data. We do not use it to determine eligibility for employment, credit, insurance, housing, or other unrelated decisions.
3. How we use information
- Provide meal analysis, nutrition estimates, and app features.
- Personalize nutrition targets and maintain the history you choose to keep on your device.
- Authenticate app requests and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Process Google Play purchases and restore paid access if paid features are offered.
- Comply with law and protect users, Outlane, and the public.
Where applicable, our legal bases include performing the service you request, your consent, our legitimate interests in securing and operating the service, and compliance with legal obligations. You may stop future AI processing by not submitting additional scans.
4. Disclosures and service providers
We disclose information only as needed to provide the service, follow your choices, operate securely, complete a corporate transaction subject to appropriate protections, or comply with law. Current categories of recipients are:
- OpenAI, L.L.C.— AI meal analysis. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default. We request that API response storage be disabled; separate abuse-monitoring data may be retained under the account's applicable controls. OpenAI privacy policy
- Alibaba Cloud / Qwen — AI meal analysis when Qwen is selected as the scan provider. Alibaba Cloud privacy policy
- Vercel — website and API hosting, delivery, and security. Vercel privacy policy
- Google Play — app distribution and, if paid features are offered, purchase and subscription processing. Google privacy policy
These providers process information under their applicable terms and our instructions. Processing may occur outside your state, province, or country, including in the United States and other locations where a provider operates, subject to applicable transfer safeguards.
5. Retention and deletion
- Local app records:profile, meal records, weight history, goals, results, and settings remain on your device until you edit them, use an available deletion or reset control, clear SnapFood's storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app.
- Locally copied meal-image files:deleting a meal removes its meal record. A copied image file may remain in SnapFood's private app storage until you clear the app's storage in Android Settings or uninstall SnapFood.
- Scan content: is not intentionally stored in our application database or content logs after the request completes. AI providers may retain limited copies under the terms described above and their policies.
- Security and operational metadata: is retained only as long as reasonably needed to secure, troubleshoot, and operate the service or meet legal obligations.
- Google Play purchase records:are retained by Google under Google's policies and as needed by us to honor entitlements, prevent fraud, provide support, and meet legal obligations.
6. Your rights and choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal or consumer health data; withdraw consent; restrict or object to processing; and appeal a denied request. You will not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
- Use SnapFood's Settings controls to delete meal records or reset locally stored app records.
- Use Android Settings to change camera or notification permission, clear all SnapFood app storage, or uninstall the app.
- Stop submitting meal scans to stop future AI processing.
- Email hi@outlanegames.com to make a privacy request or appeal.
SnapFood does not require or create a SnapFood account, so we may have little or no server-side data that we can identify as yours. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify and fulfill a request and will respond within the period required by applicable law. You may also complain to your local data-protection or consumer-protection authority.
7. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards designed for the nature of the information, including encrypted transport, scoped service credentials, request-size limits, rate limits, and content-free operational logging. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
SnapFood is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Users who have not reached the age of majority where they live should use the app only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child under 13 submitted information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where applicable.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect product, provider, Google Play, or legal changes. We will change the effective date and provide additional in-app notice when a material change requires it. Where law requires new consent, we will request it rather than treating continued use alone as consent.
